Anaerobic Digestion of Wastewater Sludge and Alkaline-Pretreated Wheat Straw at Semi-Continuous Pilot Scale: Performances and Energy Assessment

چکیده
During the last decade, application of pretreatment has been investigated to enhance methane production from lignocellulosic biomass such as wheat straw (WS). Nonetheless, most these studies were conducted in laboratory batch tests, potentially hiding instability problems or inhibition, which may fail truly predicting full-scale reactor performance. For this purpose, effect an alkaline on process performance and yields WS (0.10 g NaOH g?1 at 90 °C for 1 h) co-digested with fresh wastewater sludge was evaluated a pilot-scale (20 L). Results showed that resulted better delignification (44%) hemicellulose solubilization (62%) compared untreated WS. Pilot-scale study improved (261 ± 3 Nm3 CH4 t?1 VS) (201 6 VS). Stable without any inhibition observed high alkalinity maintained due used pretreatment. The thus confirms is promising technology could improve overall economic benefits biogas plant 24 EUR VS treated, energy recovery per unit organic matter, reduce digestate volume its disposal costs.

Influence of microwave pre-treatment on sludge solubilization and pilot scale semi-continuous anaerobic digestion.
Anaerobic digestion is widely applied for the recovery of energy from waste activated sludge. Pre-treatment methods are of high interest to increase the biodegradability of the sludge and to enhance the digestion efficiency. This paper studies the application of a microwave pre-treatment. An experimental set-up of two pilot scale semi-continuous digesters was used. During a long term experiment...
متن کاملPilot-scale anaerobic co-digestion of municipal wastewater sludge with restaurant grease trap waste.
The maximum feasible loading rate of grease trap waste (GTW) to the municipal wastewater sludge (MWS) was investigated using two 1300 L pilot-scale (1200 L active volume) digesters under mesophilic conditions at a 20 day solids retention time. During the co-digestion, the test reactor received a mixture of GTW and MWS while the control reactor received only MWS. The test digester loading was in...
متن کاملMethane Production By Anaerobic Co-Digestion Of Sewage Sludge And Wheat Straw Under Mesophilic Conditions
This study investigated the possibilities of improving methane yield production from, the anaerobic co-digestion of wheat straw (WS) and primary sludge (PS). The batch experiment was conducted under mesophilic conditions. Different mixtures of WS and PS depending on its C/N ratio were carried out to investigate the optimum C/N ratio for effective methane production. The cumulative methane yield...
متن کاملAnaerobic co-digestion of municipal wastewater sludge and restaurant grease
Co-digestion has drawn much attention because of its potential to increase biogas production among other benefits. Restaurant grease has high energy content and methane production potential and so is a promising substrate for co-digestion with municipal wastewater sludge. Anaerobic co-digestion of municipal wastewater sludge and restaurant grease was investigated at laboratory-scale under mesop...
متن کاملAnaerobic digestion of mixed silage of waterweed biomass and wheat straw in a long-term semi-continuous biogas production process
Background: As part of the maintenance of lakes and rivers, large quantities of aquatic biomass are produced every year. Neophytes, such as Elodea nuttallii, compete with native species and cause a disturbance to the ecosystem, which can manifest itself in the form of eutrophication. Aquatic macrophytes are not in competition with the production of food and animal feed and thus can be used in a...
